Amazon launched Amazon Cash in Retail Stores
Amazon launches Amazon Cash today, which allows you to add money to your Amazon Balance at a retail store, and then make your purchase online. This is intended to grow their customer base to allow people without Credit Cards to make purchases on Amazon.com.
As described on their site, it works by creating a bar code that you can use to pay for in a real store, and that amount gets credited into your account.
For context, this is different from the Cash on Delivery strategy Amazon employs in India (where you can pay the final delivery person in cash after making the purchase online).
Australia enjoys a significant cashless economy and almost everyone has a bank account. This Amazon Cash though could be the last filler to close the gap for people who are online but not banking. While Australians are getting used to shopping online, we do look forward to a faster smoother experience of shopping – like one which Amazon is known to deliver globally. We don’t expect Amazon to do this in Australia because of this, but it does go to show that Amazon is working to cover as much of the market as possible.
