GST Bill for Low Value Goods 2017
Lifehacker Australia posts about the GST Bill for Low Value Goods:
- As a result of this bill being passed, all items <$1000 being sold from overseas would need to be taxed under GST
- Australia customers would face higher costs, and place a burden for small sellers in Australia and overseas
- An extra layer of management would be needed for marketplaces such as Ebay (which does not provide warehousing and logistics).
Ebay published their letter which you can read here.
GST Bill Hearing
On Friday 21st, was the public hearing where we know that Ebay, Amazon, Etsy, and Alibaba presented their views on this.
We now await the final version of the Bill – as this has a direct bearing on most of the online sellers markets in Australia, and will likely impact most people buying products online, especially if they are shopping for products which are being brought in from overseas.
